The View On Cooking

Sweet fulfills savory at Shawarma & Shakes

Chicken shawarma with pineapple flavor roasts on the spit under the eyes of chef Moataz Elbehiry at Shawarma & Shakes on Washington Street in Weymouth Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021.

WEYMOUTH — What begun as a rebrand of a Center Jap cafe in October of very last 12 months, turned into a booming small business above at Shawarma & Shakes with a special blend of common Center Japanese delicacies and connoisseur milkshakes.

The Weymouth cafe is a spouse and children affair, run by Moataz and Danielle Elbehiry, two of their little ones, and nephews, aunts and uncles, Moataz Elbehiry explained.

Prior to the pandemic, the household owned a crepes and shakes eatery at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, as well as a Middle Japanese cafe at the Weymouth area, so when they shut the Plaza retail store thanks to COVID-19, they decided to mix their companies and amp up their menu with new spices and substances.

“Which is what influenced us to open this — how a great deal he loves food items, that’s why we [stick] with it, to do the food stuff,” Moataz Elbehiry said about the enthusiasm his 17-12 months-outdated son, Dante, has for cooking. “We have other companies. We own sweet merchants. We own food stands, food kiosks at the retailers, at (a) lot of destinations, but this grew to become his enthusiasm and that is what he [wants].”
