Future Food Stars viewers were ‘disgusted’ as they spotted contestants cooking food without wearing any hairnets on the BBC show on Thursday night (April 21). The show, hosted by Gordon Ramsay, sees the celebrity chef put a number of food business owners through their paces in challenges for the chance to win his investment.
But viewers accused the show of failing to maintain hygiene standards as the teams were tasked with creating an online delivery service. The Food Standards Agency says “every person working in a food-handling area must maintain a high level of personal hygiene’.
This includes keeping hair tied back and wearing a suitable head covering when preparing or handling food, according to the agency. Viewers took to Twitter to question why some of the stars weren’t wearing hairnets.

Alongside an emoji of an angry face, one person wrote: “Why don’t those with long hair wear nets in line with food hygiene standards?” A second asked: “Why are they all cooking without hair nets on? Absolutely vile.”
Another viewer added: “Nobody wants a hair choking them as they eat their lunch. Who on earth is running that kitchen?”
Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars returns next Thursday to BBC One at 9pm.
